Sept. 17, 2013 Newsletter Listening Sessions: Choosing Our Next Settled Minister

Listening Sessions: Choosing Our Next Settled Minister

This past weekend, the Ministerial Search Committee (MSC) hosted three more Listening Sessions. At Ferry Beach, congregants reflected on what keeps them coming to church, how a new minister might avoid making mistakes, and what has gotten better over the years. At FirstUnitarian, congregants identified the strengths and challenges of our church, including the particular role of music and the arts. Attendance at these Listening Sessions was intergenerational.

Listening Sessions will conclude this coming Sunday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m.and at 12:00 noon in the Chapel. Just 4 days later, parishioners will receive the Congregational Survey (accessible either as hard copy or online). The Survey will include both specific-response questions and open-response boxes. The results of the Survey will form a large part of what ministerial applicants learn about us.

Attendance at a Listening Session is one way to spark your thinking about the issues you will comment on in the Survey. Listening Sessions are also everyone's chance to hear and learn from each other. The MSC has been gratified by the wisdom, the sense of community, and the candor with which congregants have reflected on this moment of renewal in the life of our church. This Sunday, we will ask new questions that focus directly on the qualities you seek in your minister. Whether or not you have attended so far, we hope to hear more from you now. Please come!
