Oct. 29, 2013 Newsletter: Some Survey Demographics

Report from MSC by Diane Mirick

Your Search Committee is working to meet a November 1 deadline for the submission of our Congregational Record (CR) - the document that must be filled out by every congregation seeking a new minister. We are working from the information gleaned from the Listening Sessions and the Survey and are doing our best to represent the interests of our entire congregation.  The CR, which will be posted in about a month on the website of the UUA Transitions Office, will be available only to ministers who are looking for a new settled ministry.

Once the Congregational Record is posted, we will share more details of the Survey with you.  In the meantime, here is some information from the Survey which we think you will find interesting.  Of the 216 emails sent out inviting friends and members to take the survey, 120 individuals responded.  As surveys go, this is a remarkably good response.

Of those who responded to the Survey:
  • 90% are members of the church
  • 34% have been members for more than 20 years  (4% have been members for fewer than 2 years, 15% have been members for 3-5 years, and 30% have been members for 6-15 years)
  • 37% are in their 60s; 13% are in their 40s
  • 67% have been associated with Unitarian Universalism for more than 15 years
  • 74% were raised in Protestant Christianity or Catholic Christianity
  • 68% were female
  • 54% live within 15 minutes of the church

Watch for more information in the weeks to come, as we continue to sift through the reams of material we have amassed.  And should you have any questions, be sure to ask a member of the Search Committee.  We want to hear from you.
