Oct. 8, 2013 Newsletter: What Happens Next?

What Happens Next?

The Ministerial Search Committee (MSC) thanks the many members and friends of First Unitarian who responded to the call to fill out a Congregational Survey. We are hard at work analyzing your responses. Over the next few weeks, we will be reporting the results of both the Survey and the Listening Sessions.

Meanwhile, as the congregation now gets to "hurry up and wait," the MSC is going into overdrive. During the next month, we will be writing what's called the "Congregational Record" (CR). This is the document through which prospective ministers learn about us, and our vision of our next minister. The questions in the CR are prescribed by the UUA, and some of them may seem familiar to those who went to Listening Sessions or took the Survey: What are the church's strengths and challenges? What issues are likely to be most pressing in the next few years? Is there a dominant theology? What role is played by music and the arts? What skills and traits are valued in a minister? What are the demographics of the congregation? Other questions require the MSC to consult the staff or do additional research: What is the church's financial picture? Who has ministered here before? What is relevant about the church's history?

Due in November, the Congregational Record is both a self-study and the first step toward open two-way communication with ministerial applicants. We'll inform you about future steps in the process as we go along. For those who wish to see a complete overview, we invite you to peruse our large and colorful graphic timeline. This timeline is located on the Ministerial Search Committee's table in the Bancroft Room.
