Newsletter April 1, 2014: Spring

April, they say, is the cruelest month. It's supposed to be Spring, but when will it get here?

Under UUA rules, the answer may be: at noon, this Thursday.

That's when the Ministerial Search Committees of all UU churches that are in search get to make their official telephone calls as they each offer "Candidacy" to their single first choice. Naturally, each church will be hoping that it is also that Minister's first choice.

Right now, 51 UU churches are just where we are, preparing to make that telephone call. (Eleven of those churches are in Massachusetts or nearby in New England.) And each of those churches has up to three Pre-Candidates, who are ministers in search. Some churches and some Pre-candidates were still interviewing, right through this past weekend. Now, just like us, those churches and those ministers are on edge, waiting ... for Spring.

We hope you'll come to church this Sunday, April 6. There, we'll be able to tell you what happened, and, we hope, who our Candidate is. We'd like you to be there when Spring arrives!

Save the dates:

Sunday, April 6: Candidating Announcement.

Friday, April 25 to Sunday, May 4: Candidating "Week." Our Candidate will be in Worcester, with events scheduled so that s/he can meet all of us, for these 10 days.

Sunday, April 27: our Candidate will conduct the service and preach in our pulpit for the first time.

Sunday, May 4: our Candidate will conduct the service and preach in our pulpit for the second time.

Sunday, May 4, after the service: The Congregation will vote on whether to call the Candidate to be the Twelfth Minister in the history of First Unitarian Church.
